Introduction to Membership

How Do I Join?

Attend the monthly meeting of the branch nearest you. Fill out a membership application form and give it to one of the local council members on the night. You will be a provisional member for 3 months after which time you will be offered full membership and your annual subscription will become payable. (You may have to pay a small fee to register your provisional membership. If so, this will be deducted from your subscription when you become a full member).
Note that once you become a member of a local branch you automatically become a member of JCI Ireland and Junior Chamber International and are entitled to attend

After I join Junior Chamber ... then what?

It depends on you, there are many diversified activity areas. After you join, all that remains is for you to involve yourself in whatever areas stimulate your personal, business or community-wide interests. We usually invite new members to get involved in a project early in their membership and to go along to a few of the social and training events. It is important to establish yourself early and take it from there. Your next step should then be to look at attending a national or international event. Once you do you'll never look back!

But what if I am interested in something which Junior Chamber is not involved in?

Then we want you to propose a project! We are always looking for new ideas. Junior Chamber is continually changing our program to better fulfil the varied interests of our members and the needs of our community. Each local branch sets it's own program of local activity and hence it's up the local members to recommend new activities to get involved in.

Don't all these projects take a lot of time?

Some do, some don't. This is a voluntary organisation, you establish the amount of time that you have to invest. Some members put in more time than others. The extent of your involvement depends on you. We don't want 100% of your free time, but 100% of the time you have to offer! The minimum commitment we ask from members is attendance at the monthly meetings at attendance at a handful of the other events during the year.

How much does it cost to be a member?

The subscription cost varies from one branch to another but will usually be of the order of 100 euro per annum with discounts (depending on the branch) for early payment or student membership. Please enquire with the Local Membership Officer or Treasurer on the exact amount.

Is Junior Chamber just for business people?

Not at all. Members come from all walks of life and professions. You don't even have to be employed. We are young people who want to socialise and network with other progressive young people. When we talk about entrepreneurship, we mean it in the context of an individual's behaviour - their way of operating. They need have nothing to do with business.
